Design B&B 't Gasthuis - Bemelen - Limburg

cijfer Suitable for everyone who wants to explore the city of Maastricht, but prefers to stay in a small, lovely hamlet in the country.

Staying in our own country with the feeling of being abroad. That is what we did the last weekend of July.
We enjoy the attractive, dreamlike hilly landscape and the exuberant city of Maastricht. The weekend gets an extra dimension by staying at ‘Bed & Breakfast ’t Gasthuis’ in Bemelen, a small village in the hills, at a short distance from the city. Hostess Cintha spoilt us, not in the least by serving a super breakfast!

After being warmly welcomed in “’t Gasthuis” with a refreshing glass of mineral water and some intitial information we enter through the B&B entrance to find our room. We immediately spot, near the entrance, the small fridge ,containing cool drinks and in our room the fresh flowers and homemade muffins.
Soon we leave our “Gasthuis” (“guesthouse”) , because we intend to spend this weekend wandering through the streets of Maastricht. Especially the little alleys with their luxurious boutiques and funny little shops always appeal to us.

In the evening, we dine in a cosy little restaurant and not until the city has retired, we return to our “ Gasthuis”,for a nice glass of wine in our spacious room, where we enjoy complete privacy. Choosing between a nice refreshing bath and the inviting luxury of watching TV, lying stretched out on the adjustable bed, isn’t easy. We choose the latter and promise ourselves we’ll try out the double (!) bath next time.

The spacious garden, divided into a private garden and one for the guests, is beautiful.
Should it rain there’s always the possibility to sit in the breakfast-room with french windows opening up into the guests’ garden.
Guests can also engage the sauna. We can just picture ourselves, using the sauna after a nice brisk walk on a cold winter’s day and cooling down afterwards in the guests’ garden.

We are told that it is also worthwhile to visit the neighbour’s garden. He is a landscape architect. You would almost think that Cintha is one too. She has laid out their own garden with many edible plants, which were chosen for their beauty.

Our breakfast, lovingly served, consists of different kinds of fresh bread, perfect coffee, fresh fruit, farm yoghurt and even a freshly picked edible flower from the garden. The cheerful pastel coloured breakfast service has been collected by Cintha over the years. The colourful chandelier and the classical music turn every morningmood into a smile of joy!

Kor and Cintha each have a part-time job, besides the Bed & Breakfast, which they run together. They rent out two double rooms, with private entrance. A nice detail is. that Kor decorated one room, and Cintha the other.
So who wants to get to know both of them really well, should visit Bemelen at least twice; once to stay in Kor’s room, and once in Cintha’s. Unfortunately we haven’t been able to meet Kor, because he was away at work during the weekend, but we got an impression of his personality in ‘his room’: austere and very pleasant and functional.

We can highly recommend his address to everyone who wants to explore the city of Maastricht but wants to stay in a small, lovely hamlet in the country. ‘t Gasthuis is at cycling-distance (4 k.) from Maastricht and the beautiful view over the hills and the farmland alone are enough to prefer this to an accomodation in the busy city.
There are numerous cycling- and hiking-
routes that pass by the Bed & Breakfast, so
don’t forget to bring your bike and walkingboots !

Always on the lookout for nice addresses

We search the internet, ask around and also get lots of tips from users of our site. We base our initial selection on the info we find on the websites of the hotels.

The nicest addresses we visit and review personally. Addresses we get complaints about are re-evaluated and removed if needed. Keep us informed!

Have a nice stay!
