In the direct area of The Joffers' House you will find the historical cities of Nijmegen and Venlo, Maastricht and Düsseldorf. You'll also find many delightful small towns like Arcen and Broekhuizen, but also have plenty of opportunity for 'action' such as golf, horse-riding, tennis and swimming, and of course to explore one of the many spectacular and varied walking-and cycling-routes which takes you through forests and heath, along rose-fields and fens, lakes and along the banks of the beautiful river 'Maas'...

For a well deserved break you can stop at one of the many alfresco terraces which are situated along the river banks and try the locally brewed beers, or one of the delicious and homegrown products like the asparagus and the fantastic blueberry- and strawberry cakes. For ice-cream lovers there is the award winning and mouthwatering home made ice creams which you will find in the ice cream salons of Clevers in pittoresque Arcen!

For nature lovers
Just a stone throw away from The Joffers House you'll find 3 spectacular National Parks and many nature reserves. You can take one of the wonderful bicycle-and walking routes; many well sign-posted routes start nearby The Joffers' House...

In The Joffers' House you will find 2 to top of the range bikes ( 21 gears). You can reserve them when you make your booking for The Joffers' House (9 eu p.d.), or otherwise at your arrival; your hostess, Mieke is happy to help.

*Visit the delightful and picturesque villages which are 'dotted' along the river Maas. See www.liefdevoorlimburg (English), knob: 'Horstaandemaas' in the top bar.

*Cross the German border (just a ten minutes' or 1 hour's car-drive from The Joffers' House), and visit vibrant Düsseldorf, Essen and Duisburg. (Maastricht is only a short 60 min. drive away!)

*Cycle or walk along the banks of the river and discover outdoor festivals and markets which offer locally produced products such as the white asparagus, (aspargefeest.nl) the blueberries (www.hayberries.nl) and strawberries, (www.aardbeienland.nl ) The award winning best homemade ice-creams in The Netherlands is a 'must' (www.clevers.nl), and the locally brewed beers and 'snaps' you can taste in 'The Hertog Jan' Beer Brewery (www.hertogjan.nl)

*Follow one of the so many well-signposted cycling-and walking routes that take you through Holland's most beautiful and varied province- through forests and heath, along fens, asparagus fields, the beautiful banks of the river Maas and lakes, and through beautiful blooming rose-and blueberry fields. In early summer until deep into the autumn you will find the fields covered with thousand-and-one roses; a truly magnificent sight to see! floriade 2012
Once-a-decade international cultural extravaganza.

Come to North Limburg and visit the the dazzling horticultural displays at the World Horticultural Expo, Floriade 2012. This vibrant festival is staged once every ten years in The Netherlands- this year for its sixth edition it will be staged in Venlo, a historical city just 20 minutes' car drive from The Joffers' House and runs from April until mid-October.

The Floriade is home to the world's most exquisite and exceptional display of flowers, plants, trees and fruit and vegetables across a 100 acre site, and is divided into five exciting themes: Relax & Heal, Green Engine, Education & Innovation, and World Stage Show.

There is so much to-see and to-do, for young and old. It features a daily cultural programme of music, dance, literature, theater, visual arts as well as a whole host of innovative attractions- a truly fascinating experience to tantalise all the senses!

Joffers' Magical Music event
Enjoy a wonderful stay in The Joffers' House, meanwhile visiting a 'Classical Concert on Location.'

Yearly open air concerts are organised on surprising and picturesque spots which culturally, historically, architectural or nature-wise have exceptional beauty. Successfull Dutch and international musicians (solo or ensembles), will preform in different locations- it could be in a forest or in the courtyard of a medieval farmhouse, in the gardens of a a castle or outside a chapel situated along a country lane. Apart from these warm water treatments which have a medical function, The Thermal Baths offers a full range of health treatments- some of them are prepared with mud that comes from an Italian Vulcano, others with oil which is extracted from stone that comes from Austria. Swing into Spring 2012!
Come and enjoy Spring 2012 and experience the first sunshine rays, the unfolding nature and the blossom of the apple-and pear trees in the farmers' orchards, the wonderful alfresco terraces along the river Maas, and much more...

Something really different. You start you cycling route from The Joffers' House towards the lovely village of Grubbenvorst. Here you board onto the 'Maashopper' boat that takes you (and your bike), through spectacular nature to The Maasduinen' meanwhile enjoying your breakfast, a good cup of tea or a locally brewed Hertog Jan beer. You can board or get off at various points during this boat trip and venture further on your bike through forests and fields, cycling along the riverbanks of the Maas or through picturesque villages with medieval castles and rose gardens.

Lunch or a welcoming break can be enjoyed on one of the many outdoor terraces meanwhile watching the boats go by...

'la vie en rose'- In and around The Joffers' House!
The Joffers' House is situated in the hart of the Dutch Rose Culture which makes our holiday cottage a perfect base from which to explore and discover all aspects of the 'Queen of all flowers'; The Rose.

During this time of the year 'thousand-and one' different kind of roses are blooming; each with its individual fragrance and colour. The sight of about 25 million blooming rose plants creates the illusion of a magnificent coloured 'patch-work' blanket that covers during this time of the year acres of North-Limburg's Rose-land; a true magnificent sight to see!

It's also wonderful to rent a bike and follow one of the beautiful routes that lead you through spectacular Rose- fields where a variety of different colours and fragrances welcomes you! Especially the 'Rose-route' is a must! It takes you along idyllic country lanes and picturesque rose-villages, and during the festive month of August the entrances to these villages, as well as many houses are beautifully decorated with thousands of roses. A stop at one of the beautiful castles, such as the castle of 'de Borggraaf' in Lottum, as well as the castle in Well are well worth a visit.

In the largest Rosarium in the Netherlands (Lottum),you can choose your rose that suits you! Another wonderful stop is the Gardens of Arcen's Castle: a beautiful medieval castle that is situated in a 32 ha large estate. Here you can fall in love all over again! More than 500 different roses decorate this beautiful Rosarium.

'White Gold Weeks in Asparagus Land'
(Mid April until June 21st, 2012)

The Joffers' House is a perfect base from which to discover Limburg's Asparagus Land. The Dutch Tourist Board has especially organised twelve walking-and cycling routes that take you along asparagus fields where you can see the asparagus farmers at work- digging for this delicious 'White Gold.' Try one of the local restaurants which celebrate this locally grow vegetable through offering a vast selection of delicious asparagus dishes during this time of the year.

*'White Gold Route (34 km): you will visit the lovely village, Arcen where you can taste the asparagus liquor. You will also pass by the Asparagus Museum, 'de Locht' in Melderslo.
*The Diggers Route (39 km): this route leads you along country roads- and lanes, to the beautiful open park of Geijsteren, the banks of the river Maas en the National Park, 'The Maasduinen'.

*Special events: e.g. the Asparagus Festival in Grubbenvorst (Easter Monday), The Asparagus 4 day Cycling festival in Arcen.

Zalig bijpraten tot in de kleine uurtjes, samen kokkerellen in de luxe en gezellige keuken met een wijntje erbij. Wandelen op de Maasveldweg,of met de fiets langs bos en hei, door vennen en velden vol rozen, langs de oevers van de Maas of door gezellige, pittoreske maasdorpjes met fraaie kerken, kloosters en kappelletjes.

In kort, geinspireerd worden door elkaar en daarna weer heerlijk 'thuiskomen' en jullie installeren op de bank bij de open haard; what bliss!
