Appingedam, which is of medieval origin, lies strategically between the city of Groningen en the Oostzee area. The "Pakhuis Les Beaux Arts" lies by the Damsterdiep, which was once a very important logistical shipping route. From 1650 until the beginning of the last century the Damsterdiep was a channel where many "pakhuizen", or warehouses, were located. Cargo ships were constantly going up and down this channel. Over the years the cargo loads increased to the point that the warehouses were insufficient in size and therefore no longer feasible. The rustic warehouses were then converted to residences. It was in this process that kitchens were expanded to extrude over the water… The famous "Hanging Kitchens".

Buitengewoon gastvrije gastvrouw. Zong cantates met begeleiding aan een vleugel. We hadden zelfs een privé mini concert van een pianiste-componiste die ons drie van haar werken liet horen. Al met al toch heel bijzonder, hadden het niet willen missen!
