Monty Small Design Hotel - Brussels - Brussels-region

cijferA good place to go for a relaxing weekend in Brussels. Explore the city, enjoy the food!

The vibe:
In an upscale neighborhood of Brussels, a design hotel with a twist. A beautiful 19th century townhouse beautifully restored, what’s the twist? Well they designed it with humor, for example, in the garden you are welcomed by the life-size statue of a red bull!

The owners:
In the lounge we meet Burac Acar, one of the three owners. Hotel Monty - we find out - is a project of three friends who decided that their next move would be starting a hotel. They are well traveled, with working experience in London and New York.

They studied the European market and decided that Brusssels was lacking that type of hotel they felt like starting up, a small design hotel. Their instincts were right. Monty is succesful and they are already plotting their next project, again in the same neighborhood of Brussels.

The rooms:
Divided over three floors we find 18 rooms, decorated with taste and a daring color palette of dark red and grey. We had a room on the second floor in the back of the house with a good view. On the ground floor there is a reception-, lounge and breakfast area, all with a friendly homey atmosphere.

Breakfast:
This is where you get to meet the other guests. We were all seated around a big table where a big breakfast was laid out for us. One of the guests happened to be a film editor from Luxembourg, in Brussels for a week working on a new project. Other guests were three Swedish businessmen and a French woman from the Reunion Island who was in town for an EU broadband conference. Everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time.

The location:
“The Monty” is located outside the touristic centre of Brussels but is still very central and a few meters away from a metro stop. The location is well chosen, in a good neighborhood, close to the European Parliament and with good metro connections. We did not use the metro that much. We used the hotel as a starting point for exploration walks through the neighborhoods.

We just wandered off in the direction of the centre and found ourselves in parks like the Paris Luxembourg Gardens. We passed beautiful Art Nouveau buildings and cozy local plazas and cafes. We had dinner in the centre and returned to the hotel by metro (get off at the Merode metro stop for a ‘nightcap’ in one of the fun brasserie-style cafes in the neighborhood).

Pluses and minuses
A good place to go for a relaxing weekend in Brussels, explore the city, enjoy the food! During the week this hotel is frequented by “Europarliament” visitors (who seem to have discovered this boutique hotel). In the weekend the atmosphere is different, more relaxed and also the prices look better ( ask for their weekend-deals!).

Always on the lookout for nice addresses

We search the internet, ask around and also get lots of tips from users of our site. We base our initial selection on the info we find on the websites of the hotels.

The nicest addresses we visit personally. Addresses we get complaints about are re-evaluated and removed if needed. Keep us informed!

Have a nice stay!
